you are in: Fair > welcome to the Markham Fair Fair Dates: October 1 - October 4, 2009Thank You for Visiting and Making the Markham Fair so SuccessfulOn October 2nd to 5th, the 2008 Markham Fair welcomed more than 74,793 visitors onto the grounds to enjoy four days of good old fashioned family fun!
The center ring had crowds gathered each day for such events as the demolition derby, and the Truck and Tractor pull, freestyle motorcross, not to mention the spectacular fireworks display on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Who could resist meeting Dora the Explorer and her cousin Diego on Sunday morning or visiting Old Mac's Barn with all the baby animals! There were crowds everywhere! Markham's Fair showcased five of the toughest bad boys in the Monster Truck Circuit. The grandstands were packed with spectators for the largest outdoor Monster Truck Madness show featuring the legendary BIGFOOT. Cars were crushed as the trucks competed to see who could perform the best wheel stands with their 1,800 plus horse power machines. The fans were shaking from the sounds of these monsters. This year's Markham Fair saw the return of a Cavalcade of Horses. A daily parade consisting of different breeds of horses and ponies, starting with a miniature horse, then Quarterhorse, Appaloosa, Canadian, and Palomino. Next came the ponies, namely, Shetland and Welsh, culminating with the three draft (heavy) breeds, Belgian, Clydesdale and Percheron. What a pleasing sight to children of all ages as well as the young adults, and of course our many Senior Citizens. What a great opportunity to witness vast sample of horses doing what they were raised to do - ride and/or drive. In the spirit of fair and open competition, there were thousands of exhibitors and competitors entering everything from pumpkin pies to horses, which has always made Markham Fair a place worthy of long distance travel by many a competitor within Ontario and even as far away as Quebec. Let's not forget that the midway, with such rides as the Cannonball, the Fireball, the Swing Carousel and the Haunted Mansion, along with all the games were as popular with the crowds as ever. The Markham Fair Board would like to take this opportunity to thank those visitors, along with our staff, volunteers, sponsors and exhibitors, for making the 2008 Markham Fair such a huge success!!
